Miss Pearson was appointed Assistant Referee for the Women’s FA Cup between Chelsea Ladies and Arsenal on Saturday 5 May. Talking to her the weekend before she was really excited and honoured to be selected as part of the officiating quartet.
Luckily we were able to go up to see her in action, sitting in the friends and family section of the stadium… great seats! In fact she (and all the players) passed right by me on their way up to the Royal Box to collect their medals. It was fascinating to watch her as well as the game itself and begin to really appreciate the level of concentration necessary; the constant adjustment of her position to watch for that offside decision.
Miss Pearson loved every minute of it (check out her big smile at the end of the match) … and in her own words was ‘still buzzing’ about it the next day. She knows that she had a lot of support here in Weymouth and that we’re all very proud of her!
Who knows… with her determination and work ethic, she may well be refereeing from the middle within the next few years!
