At All Saints School we offer a condensed Key Stage 3 which follows the national curriculum. This means that our students study: English, Maths, Science, Computing, RE, History, Geography, Art, PE, Music, Drama, Design Technology and Modern Languages. In Design Technology, students study Food and Nutrition, Electronic Products and Graphic Products. All students will study either German, French or Spanish.
All our students study English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science and RE as part of their core examined curriculum. They will take a GCSE in each of these subjects. Our more able students take separate sciences and further maths. In addition to these examined subjects, all pupils have PE and PSHE (personal, social and health education) as part of their time-tabled curriculum.
At the end of Year 8 our students opt for three additional GCSE or Cambridge National Qualifications which they will study to the end of Year 11 in addition to the core curriculum. Students select from a range of option subjects, which they study in addition to the core curriculum. What we offer can sometimes change from year to year. GCSE qualifications are currently under review and reform and some courses are being phased out by exam boards and replaced by others. Currently it is possible for any pupil entering Key Stage 4 in Year 9 to study the following option subjects:
Child Development (Cambridge National)
Engineering (Cambridge National)
Food and Nutrition
ICT (Cambridge National)
We expect all our students to study for at least one qualification in either history or geography. Many pupils will be recommended to study a modern foreign language. In addition to GCSE in ICT, some students will also take the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
A small number of pupils who require literacy support are able to select one less option and instead receive literacy and numeracy support and the opportunity to achieve a First Aid certificate, Food Hygiene certificate and a certificate in IT competency.
Assessment is largely through terminal exam at the end of Year 11, although some subjects also include teacher assessed controlled assessment tasks
