On Friday the 9th of October the science department flew 22 year 11 students to visit the biggest Physics experiment in the world at CERN in Geneva Switzerland. Over the weekend students were able to visit the CERN control centre and see some of the pieces of equipment up close including sections of the superconducting electromagnets and particle detectors.
They were lucky enough to talk to some of the scientists working on the Large Hadron Collider. We also tried a fondue dinner whilst listening to traditional Swiss music, several students showed their skills on the alpine horn and cow bells. We even had time to shop for chocolate and enjoy a boat tour of lake Geneva.
