Former All Saints pupil Dr Rachel Furley has been made an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list for service to ‘sick children in the UK and Belarus’. Dr Rachel is a paediatrician at Addenbrooke Hospital and was one of the first state school students to study at Downing College, Cambridge.
She is credited as saying that she had first been drawn to helping children in Belarus when she was involved in fundraising for the children of Chernobyl, a cause the school has supported for many years. She set up the ‘Bridges to Belarus’ charity whilst at Cambridge and goes out at least once a year with funding for essential items and with desperately needed medical supplies. All this is all the more remarkable as Dr Rachel has been wheelchair bound for around ten years.
Congratulations Dr Rachel Furley!
