Mr Jörg Nellen, a German teacher of History and English from Wurzburg, has returned to Germany after joining All Saints’ for the first three weeks of the Easter Term. Mr Nellen, who teaches at the Vocational College in Schweinfurt, Bavaria, visited All Saints as part of the bi-national “Host a Teacher from Germany” programme.
“The warm welcome by the students and teachers alike was what I enjoyed most,” Mr Nellen said. “German and British schools have much in common. Above all, they share a compassionate and highly professional approach to teaching and learning.” He was struck by some of the differences, however. “Assemblies, the wearing of school uniform, and the fact that teachers receive their students in their own rooms at All Saints rather than vice versa, are some of the main differences at an organisational level,” he commented.
Mr Nellen certainly kept busy! During his visit he observed and supported learning in many lessons and subjects across all the year groups. He met staff to discuss their roles within the school and to explore common issues affecting German and British education. He even led a Year 10 assembly on the theme of “Unity.”
With so many positive things coming out of his visit, we hope that there might indeed be a true “Auf Wiedersehen!” in the not too distant future!
