Food and Nutrition students from year 9 wanted to experience the sensory characteristic of spices to enhance their learning. The class decided the best way to do this was to order an Indian meal from a local restaurant/take away.
We chose Zafran in Weymouth because we know Bishan from when he supported the school by judging our dance competition.
Bishan from Zafran Indian Restaurant, kindly donated complements and gave us a generous discount which was much appreciated. Mrs Allen made fresh naan bead and cardamom rice to accompany the dishes and clear the pallet plus Mrs Shepherd was very much involved in making this an enjoyable experience for the children.
Speciality dishes included vegetable curry, lamb bunah, chicken Kurma, garlic chilli chicken, and a Madras curry. In addition to the main, side dishes were available for everyone to try such as: Bombay potatoes, pompadoms, mint sauce, onion salad, onion raita and naan bread. The taste experience took some of the children by surprise as they had no previous experience of this cuisine and everyone enjoyed their learning.
